2015 was a year to celebrate for the Timbers Nation! After the incredible final match against Columbus Crew SC, Portland Timbers won their first MLS Cup, with the score 2 – 1. An interesting fact about this long tough journey toward the final triumph is that the team has been participating in the MLS since only 2011! Supporters and fans who were supporting regardless of whether they win or lose, never ever have been so proud of their team! The great intelligence and hard work held by head coach Caleb Porter was essential to lead the team to the championship! I am proud to say I am a witness of this fantastic soccer players’ group! I watched some matches, and I felt the energy coming from the stands. Fans chanting, “we will always believe“! Each match was another amazing experience that I have been through here in the United States!
Imagine how amazing it would be if the Timbers win MLS again with a soccer player who graduated at Clark College. Why not? Who knows… Clark College has a Men’s Soccer Team that competes in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC). Our penguin soccer athletes are recruited and led by the head coach Brett Jacobs and his very dedicated assistants. In the last two years, Clark College Men’s Soccer Team has been reaching great results. The 2014-2015 season, for example, the equip got to the quarterfinals, losing the match by 2-1. This season, with the hard work of head coach Brett, they got to the quarterfinals again. This time, they tied 0-0, going to play overtime. The score continued to be 0-0, only losing in penalty kicks.
Our team has been playing with bravery and dedication. I am certain that the 2016-2017 season, our penguins equip will be ready for the next battles, and hopefully, we will have better results. If you are interested in being a part of our Men’s Soccer Team, the tryouts will be starting in August at the practice field, but I would suggest contacting coach Brett to get all information.
Speaking about soccer, this year will be a great year for US National Team. Two important leagues are coming up: Olympics and “Copa America Centenario”. The Olympic games are going to be hosted in Brazil (my country for some of you who still might not know), and Copa America Centenario will be hosted here in the US, and as a passionate soccer fan, I am always up to date about soccer news around the world! It’s also interesting to see how quickly soccer has been increasing here in the US. Not only the National Team has been getting better, and more popular, but also the quality of Major League Soccer (MLS) with the active support of US Soccer Confederation. As a supporter, I really wish luck to Portland Timbers and the Clark College Soccer Team in this 2016-2017 season.
