Hey Penguin Nation! Are you guys interested in having fun and navigating through different cultures around the world at the same time? Clark College’s dedicated International Program staff is hosting the International Education Week 2015! IEW is an amazing initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education in order to celebrate all benefits that international education promotes and cultural diversity to our society. This great and enjoyable event is happening November 16 – 20 in diverse areas around the campus. Music? Sports? Films? Food? Lectures? YES! Everything is included to provide our community the opportunity of having new experiences through different cultures.
As an exchange student, I would suggest all international students participate in it as an excellent way to engage in our community and, of course, have fun. You know why? I did not join that last year because, as most international students do, I was going through Culture Shock, and I only wanted to spend my day doing nothing in my home. Yeah, I know. It was boring! Right? (Haha).
Additionally, this event is a great opportunity to connect our international students with native speakers as an initiative to meet new friends and share their experiences in how living in another country with a different culture is. If you are looking for playing popular sports from other countries or enjoy recreational activities, stop at O’Connell Sports Center on Thursday 19, between 10 – 11:50 a.m. If you are interested in hearing a specialist discuss struggles dealing with different cultures, visit Foster Auditorium on Wednesday 18 at 4:30 p.m. Lucia Worthington, a business instructor, will talk about her experiences with culture shock and its adaptation, acceptance, and commitment.
Furthermore, this is in no way only for international students. All Clark students are welcome to enrich their cross-cultural communications when learning about other cultures. So that, representatives of successful companies, such as Nike, Sigma Design, and Boeing will talk about the importance of navigating through different cultures for the business field. The event will be on Tuesday 17, from 4:00 to 5:00 at PUB 161. By the way, I will be there for sure! And, if you are planning study French or even interested in travel around France ( who knows? ), Clark College French Club will play a French movie on Friday 20, starting at 6:30 p.m. in Foster Auditorium. By the way, speaking about navigating through diverse cultures, I also encourage you guys participate in the International Club. Join us and enjoy the activities!
So, are you guys ready for this exciting week? Invite your friends to join you in our activities throughout International Educational Week, and be alert about our upcoming events! It is open and free to our community. Any questions? Contact International Programs Office (GHL 215).
